my pc sometimes doesnt power up fully it just powers up doesnt post then switchs off then powers up again and does the same. I have to unplug and reconnect (sometimes also remove the ram and reinsert) to get it going, im not sure if the psu is failing or not giving enough power as it was working fine last week on my old setup but now iv upgraded and the only things from my old setup to new are pioneer 111, nec sata burner, 2x 1.5tb hdd, 8800gts 640 and zalman hp600w

old spec (inc the 6 items above)
q6600
2gb xms2 6400 (2x1gb)
abit ab9 pro

new spec (inc the 6 items above)

Sounds like a very similar problem to what I had, when I turned my PC on the system would power up (not post) and power off, maybe repeat 3 or 4 times then post.

Some days it just wouldn't post at all and I gave up.

So firstly I thought it was my PSU (see spec) so I tried a brand new 600w enermax and to my surprise the same thing happen. At the time I had 4 sticks of 6400 so I took 3 out and tried with 1 in, same thing happened. (didnt try other 3, come back to that later)

So next I thought it would be board failure so seeing how my PCI-e 1.1 board had lasted 15 months I decided to upgrade to a 2.0 as well as buying my 4870. Put it all together and same thing happened, was gutted!!! and stuck.

I then tried 1 stick at a time, and way hey!!! BINGO, 3 of the 4 stucks were duff. It booted fine with just one but ran like a B***H in vista obv. If only I had tried that at the beginning I would have saved myself a lot of time and money, but hey, was thinking about the upgrade anyway.

I rma'ed all 4 sticks back to G.Skill who replaced it with 2x2GB 8500

Hope this helps???

i only got the ram on the weekend and have noticed i sometimes have to pull the sticks out and put them in again before the system will post ill take them back and get a replacment

took it back to the shop and they stuck it in there pc and it wouldnt post so they replaced it for me. I was very close to buying a new psu, lucky i posted here before i did that

btw i ran memtest for about 6 hours and it kept saying the ram passed 4 times before i stopped it
