Is a 6800nu powerful enough?

To get decent gaming performance from a 19" or 19" widescreen monitor?

I'm not a game head, but I do play DOD Source every now and again and want a reasonable frame rate... would it be possible to play on lower resolutions if I decide to get a larger monitor?

It should be ok for the source engine at 1280x1024, especially if you have a go at unlocking the extra 4 pipes and clock it.

You can always run at a lower res, but this can result in cropping or the blocky effect you get when running at the LCDs non native resolution.

thanks dave... I will do the groundwork on this but is there a 7xxx AGP series card that would serve a 19" monitor better than my 6800nu? Or ATI, I'm not prejudiced...

Most powerful AGP card is ATI's X1950, nothing yet from the 7xxx range, though there's a midrange 7xxx card rumoured to be in the pipeline.

Yeah, but bear in mind that it would be an AGP stopgap before a probably upgrade next year...

I want to spend as little as possible as the only reason I would upgrade AGP is so that I can get a better monitor...

my 6800nu ran hl2 very well, was easily able to do 1600x1200 but no AA. mine was fully unlocked and clocked.

6800nu is a very good card still and older games like DoD etc will run really well on it. only newer stuff made it struggle like fear and oblivion.

I'll second that. HL2 runs great on my stock 6800GT. HDR on, AA and AF off. 1680x1050.

But then, my 9600XT ran HL2 fine ;)
