Is a Dell 27" G-sync worth getting for this system?

Good morning,

As per thread title, I'm wondering if upgrading my 60hz 1080p Iiyama monitor to the Dell 27" Gsync 1440p monitor is worth doing with this system:

Z97k board
4690k @ 4.6Ghz
8Gb RAM
EVGA GTX 980 SC (boosts at about 1400Mhz)

Wondering how the 980 will stack up at 1440p and whether Gsync will really make a difference.

Thanks for any answers :)

Honestly for that price bracket I would add the extra and get this

The Dell is still a tn panel when all is said and done, and If I were in that price bracket I would go with the acer, ips and it's gsync. It is also a 165Hz wherre the Dell is 144Hz

I was looking at that but I've read some negative stuff on Acer's build quality and am wondering if IPS glow will get on my nerves.

It's a tough decision.

Put it this way, I had a Benq xl2420g which drove me nuts, had huge amounts of black crush and the worst vertical contrast ratio I have ever seen, I returned it and got the Dell U2515H a 1440p ips monitor.I'm pretty happy I did, sure the Benq was more responsive and the Gsync was nice but image quality suffered and was a pain forr non game use to boot.

Honestly I would never order a monitor of that cost online again, better you visit a store and make sure you are happy with it and then if you like and it is cheaper order online..

To sum it up I can't go back to tn after being around IPS monitors, the difference is night and day.

It all comes down to your needs mostly, besides which you can exchange the acer if you have problems and go for the dell, if you're still not satisfied then.

Too much money for a tn panel imo

I do plan to look at monitors in a shop before purchasing. I did try an IPS screen on a 10" tablet and couldn't really tell that much difference between that and a non-IPS tablet. But I'm putting that down to the screen size being so small, I think the difference would be far more pronounced on a larger screen with more pixels.

It really is a hard decision. Whatever I go for will surely be noticeably better than a 60Hz model though?

Also, is the 980 up to 1440p?

Entirely game dependent,a 980 Ti is optimal for 1440p whereas the 980 you will have to tweak settings and wont be "maxing" out AAA games, but with Gsync you have nothing to worry about on that end anyway, as you wont notice drops under 60 fps.

there seems to be major problems with the predator and quality control. i think it's the same panel as the pg279q. the vast majority of reviews on amazon talk about backlight bleed and stuck pixels

I game with a GTX 970 on my Asus Swift and all my games run great.

I bought the Dell, and I was so pleased with it, I also bought a new KFa2 GTX 970 super duper to replace my KFa2 GTX 670, because though even the GTX 670 looked good, it did struggle at times at 1440, but the 970 rocks, so your card should be perfect.
Colour wise, even out of the box I thought the colours looked fine, but tried some of the profiles on the Dell G-Sync thread and I would say it is now very close to an IPS, (it is an 8 bit colour panel, not 6 like most TN screens). Get it!

Well, I went down to the shop and had a look at the Dell and a more expensive Rog IPS, they didn't have the Acer IPS. The Rog did have a bit of a glow, looking at the Dell alongside it I couldn't tell a great deal of difference, the Dell panel looked good quality too. 500 notes is a lot of money for a TN panel but I went for it anyway. I had the cash so why not..

G-sync + 144Hz + 1440p is pretty damn astounding when coming from 1080p @ 60Hz, gaming is so fluid

Just off to bed after a good 6 hours gaming :D

I said the same after getting similar spec but with Freesync rather than G-Sync. It's great to see people happy with their own purchases. At the end of the day if it does what you wanted it to do or even better supercedes what you thought it would be like then that's a big winner in my book.

Enjoy your gaming
:D
