Is a GTX 970 overkill?

Hi all,

It's very rare that I game these days but have just bought just cause 3. My pc has a 560ti and just can't run it.

I do have a 28" 4K screen as my primary, my 560ti will only allow me to go upto 1080p. I also have another 23"1080p if it makes a difference.
Now I don't expect to game at 4k and 1080p is fine but to have a higher resolution for general usage would be nice. I don't need to game with the best graphical settings either and I'll be happy with "good/high" but a playable FPS, unlike what I have now.

The first suggestion for a card was a 970, but I'd rather avoid spending £260 ish if I can help it. However my card has lasted me 4 years and I don't plan to upgrade the next one till I need to, so it would make sense to spend a bit more it it lasts me another one year or so.
My Coolmaster Storm Scout can only take cards upto 270mm apparently according to website, so need something which will fit (some 970s will it seems)

Suggestions please?

Other specs :
GA-Z77-D3H mobo
I5-3570k CPU
8GB RAM (don't know speed without checking)

I'd probably go on members market it I were you. Try and pick a 780ti.

Someone selling a 970 for 190 there right now if you're quick

R9 390 that will handle 4k and will let you game comfortably at say 1440 on your 4k screen @ high settings with decent frames. the extra Vram on a 390 over a 970 will definitely help you out imo

Too long that 970 :(

Seems like the 390 and 970 are pretty similar prices then with the 780ti being a bit less which favours me towards that a bit more. Though I imagine all 3 would cope for what I want..

Shame there's nothing really in the MM. Need to keep looking but want something sooner then later considering I'm off work for all of this month so have the time to mess around on a game.
