Seems like there are rumours. Am thinking of buying the Sony SZ series for the weight instead of a macbook pro. But i prefer Apple. I cant wait forever :(

Macbook Pro is 2.5KG , Macbook 2.3kg, Vaio SZ cheapo version is 1.8kg, 1.6 for expensive ones.

Vista doesnt seem that bad at all but i hear OSX is even better. i hate this :(

It looks like their going that way, i can definetly see Apple integrating sub-notebooks into their product line. And you know Apple ... if a jobs worth doing, its worth doing well!

As for when they'll come out, who knows, Apple are being really quiet at the moment. They did say at the beginning of January lots of things will be coming out for the Mac in 2007, but so far not a sausage has come out of Cupertino yet. Although, Apple did hold a small press event this time last year (28th Feb) to release a couple of products, so you never know.

I too am very interessted in a light weight macbook/macbook pro but its anyones guess when they will come out if at all. I really like OSX and I am sure you would like it too, I guess its whether you value a light weight form factor over an OS.

I'll take a stab at saying around May/June, as thats when the MacBooks were released and when students will be starting to think about buying a laptop.

I'm starting to think Apple are going to be locked away until June fully integrating Leopard into all the new hardware. It makes sense to release any new hardware models with Leopard as nobody is going to want to buy a new laptop/desktop with an operating system thats about to expire.

Hey,

This is something that I personally am holding out for as I had a 12" iBook and loved it for the fact it could fit in my satchel along with my books and not add any weight for lectures and was pretty damn powerful for that size too.

I am hoping though that they do a Macbook Pro ultraportable, as I would rather have a more powerful GFX and the ability to have more ram, faster CPU etc, and not a glossy screen.

I find my 17" MBP a doddle to carry.

Certain not enough to put me off buying another

hehe i'm glad others agree. I might have to go with the Sony SZ for now as it is well specced too with a gfx card. But i will envy the macbook light. :p

Hopefully Apple fill more gaps. THe fact that people from other segements buy the macbook and pro is a testament to how much people are impressed. :)

Personally, I'd stay away from vista- after all, it was out a day and they already released a security update. In my opinion the macbooks are real light- especially the 13" ones and they can run windows too... altho why would you want to? Rumors are 2 weeks from now there'll be a few new releases, from podcasts we should expect to see a new Mac Pro, Mini, Macbook Pro (possibly) and iMac- as theyre all reaching the end of product cycles. But the truth is no one really knows and if its an internals or external upgrade- who knows?! Good luck with buyin your laptop!

It is when you want to put other things in your bag too. More if you need to take the charger with you as well. The day they bring out an ultraportable MacBook or MBP is the day I'll finally ditch my Thinkpad.

I'm wanting to buy a laptop around september and am looking out for this release (hopefully) aswell. All I need is a really basic, small laptop that I can type word documents in - so a 12" elcheapo macbook like they used to do would be perfect. If they don't make one then I'll have to get the 13" base model (and then upgrade the RAM), but would prefer not to...

That's pretty much exactly what I want. I'm doing my project next year, so want a laptop I can take to uni easily and have all my settings just where I want them, rather than moving files between my computer at home and the computers in the lab at uni. Here's hoping there's a smaller one out by then :) If not I'll just have to manage with the 13" :p

My bets are any small and light apple laptop is definitely going to be in the 'luxury item' market and will be as expensive as the old Powerbook 12". I wouldn't hold out for a iBook 12" equivalent - Apple believe that the Macbook is the new iBook basically.

Not they didnt. The update was for liveonecare and defender not for Vista.
