Ive got a fairy high powered home built PC but after using my iphone for so long and looking around the apple stores i am really considering a MacBook. I am really impressed with the interfaces and just how nice they are to use.

I dont play any games on my PC any more and i want a MacBook for portability and web browsing. I noticed the specs of the laptops arent that great in terms of power but just how quick is the OS with the hardware?

Also with me studying Computer Forensics at Northumbria uni it would be nice to get to grips with a different OS instead of just Windows. I hear you can get a student discount, is this correct and how much do i get off? Is it cheaper to buy in store or to order online?

any other advice for a Mac noob?

thanks

Think the spec compares quite well with other laptops no?, but the OS apart from memory usage is light on resources and pretty quick.

Yeah the HE discount is 14%, so it is almost the price minus VAT.

Prices for new models will be the same online or instore, refurbished models will be cheaper.

any disadvantage of the re-furbed items apart from feeling tight? lol

Not at all, they're always really good and in mint condition. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference basically.

The only difference is they come in a plain box instead of the normal Apple one.

is it a case of going into a apple store and seeing what specs they have in? do prices vary in terms of condition or is it fixed?

thanks again for the advice everyone :)
