Is a PhysX card worth it?

My new system arrived recently boasting a 5870 which has rendered my old stuff obsolete. Is it worth installing one of my NVIDIA cards (i have 2 78800GT's) for PhysX use? Would it benefit in any way?

well reading other threads in Graphics cards and full systems ppl talk a lot about doing it but no one actually says if its worth it or not! :P

You can't actually use a 7800 for PhysX. It has to be a CUDA capable card that has stream shaders, so you'd need at least an 8 series.

I'll let u know if I ever get it working ;)
Personally I don't think I would have bothered if I didn't already have an 8800GT spare to try out.
But once I see it in action I'll be able to say if it's worth money :)

Difficult question to answer. It makes a big difference to the framerates in Batman.

Debatable though whether the physx are worth it in Batman but only you can decide that. Plenty of videos around showing the difference.

I suppose it's what new games come out which use physx.

Since you don't have a compatible physx card atm and unless you have batman, you may as well wait and buy a cheap 2nd hand card later when there are more games out using it.

Oh and it's dead easy to setup, I did it with my gtx260 and 5850. It's an easy 3 step process. Install ATI driver, install patch, install Nvidia driver, reboot, set two screens with one hidden and it works.

hmm... well come to thing of it, i'll probably save my other slot for a second 5870 when the more intensive games come out...

I dont like the idea of hacking it to get it working as there are always hidden issues which are then unsupported and a biatch to fix...
