is a quality 850w psu good enough

as above but will it last power wise for future upgrades with 1 gpu or should i go for a 1kw psu

Depends on the brand, a quality 550 PSU honestly will be enough if you plan to stick with 1 GPU though.

A quality brand PSU at 850 should be able to last a few upgrades and run multiple gpu's without issue (majority of gpu's)

I keep an old Seasonic 600W as a backup PSU, it's enough to run a single GPU system just fine.

600W from a decent brand is enough to run any single GPU setup, unless you have something stupid like a highly overclocked 480 along with a highly overclocked i7 920 CPU.

i wouldnt bother getting more than 750W unless you're using multiple GPUs

Can't go wrong with either mentioned brand, just choose your poison, anything above 550 will do you well for the foreseeable future, provided you don't plan on running SLI/CF
