Is a Salad Drawer called a Crisper in the UK?

Never heard of this term before, I have always known it as the salad drawer.

Is crisper used in the uk to mean a salad drawer, or is it a americanism.

The compartment in a refridgerator for storing salad.

'Cos it keeps salad crisp, as in fresh.

Not sure why its more crisp in the drawer than a random spot in the fridge though.
