The one he is using has been returned to Microsoft twice so far, so I wouldn't really say that's good reliability.

Having 2 of the same console is indeed excessive, seriously, spend your money on something else, take your GF out, buy your mum some flowers, put it towards a holiday or something ...

His girlfriend would much rather the money went towards being able to actually *watch* tv on a regular basis than a couple of dates

Knowing women I bet she does get to watch the TV when she wants, which is why he is considering how to play the 360 on the other TV.

This was my problem as well, which is why I opted for the extra power brick and VGA cable. I really couldn't be bothered to unhook the whole thing every time I wanted to transport it, but just pulling 2 cables on of the back and then carrying it upstairs was nice and easy.
