Is a server right for me?

My situation:

I have a PC running XP-Pro and I've just brought a Laptop running XP-Home.
I want to 'sync' folders like 'My Documents' and profile settings like desktop wallpaper etc.

My first thought was to buy an old rig a mate of mine is selling and run a domain server from it, of course XP-Home doesn't support domains *the cheek*. So I decided that I could just use folder re-direction instead. Of course, if I'm only going to use folder re-direction, I'd probably be better off getting an ethernet hdd.

Does anyone have any other ideas as to how I can do this? Or clue me in to a secret way to get XP-Home to work on a domain.

Cheers guys.

For file sharing you don't need to have a domain.

For very simple file sharing you won't even need a server.

If you do want to set up a server a low end box running Linux should be fine.
(My home file server is a P3 450 w 256MB ram running Ubuntu 6.06 and I'm a bit of a linux Noob)
