Is a single 680 better than my 280s in SLI?

Hi guys, i'm slowly getting back into pc gaming, and haven't updated my gaming pc in a while.

I've just bought Battlefield 3, and really interested in Sleeping Dogs.
I've also got project cars, so want to see it in its best light.

My current set up it i7 920 @3.6ghz, 6gb ram, and 2x 280.

Is it worth getting the 680, or get two 660's?

Will i see a huge gain?

Currently game at 720p, but want to up the res and details.

It should also give much better min FPS and run better than 2 cards in sli.

The extra VRAM should help a lot in BF3

A 680 will be noticeably faster, but I'd save £100 or so and buy a 670 instead since it provides almost the same performance but at much better value.

My Single 680 was only a tiny bit slower than GTX 480 sli. and one of them was not to much slower then a GTX 280 SLI

I'd say that would be a pretty good upgrade If it was me I'd do it, and I'm a scab.
