hi guys

right here the score

i really am in a pickle here after making a conroe2 thread to get opinions and it seems very divided

i have at the minute

sugo case
gigabyte matx mobo skt 939
amd 64 3200 winchester core
6800gs
1 gig geil ram

my young kids want a comp for xmas and i have decided due to space to get them theAntec NSK2400 Desktop Case - 380W SmartPower PSU (CA-053-AN) and put my insides into into and upgrade my comp

but with a fairly tight budget conroe may just be a little out of reach

but i have been looking at the am2 side of it but dont see many posts regards am2 i know its older tech but is still the latest on amd side

i also see that a 3800 proccy running at 2.4 for am2 is only 79 quid

but are there problems with the am2 see a few posts with ram probs

or i could just get a 4000 939 proccy and another 939 mobo but i thought a am2 may be better as it uses newer ram

Difficult situation, but all hinges on what u going to use the pc 4. Your old system should be able to handle everything you want it to do from the sounds of it. The other option of course is to go the conroe route, but not actually purchase the cpu at this stage. You could go for an 805 at half the conroe cost and upgrade when you see a good special, or do what im doing and going the celly route and buying the conroe later. My system does everything i need it to do and all i need to do is get the best conroe i can afford later. A celly at £25...what a pleasure.

runs at 2 gigs not 2.4 unless your overclocking it.

Like stelly said , its not AMD is bad and it will do everything you want , its just Intel has taken a huge leap atm

I would forget about getting another 939 board. You definitely want a ddr2 system if you're buying new ram.

One thing I'd look into is when the new 65nm AMD chips are coming out. AFAIK there's some new things coming out in November time? Can anyone confirm this?

As your old computer is going to be a Xmas present, I'd leave it a couple of months and hope the ram prices come down a bit too.
