Sorry to be dumb.

I bought a new PSU and mobo for my Athlon 64 3200+ X2 based system, before realised it was the hard drive that was causing issues.

Now I just want to build a cheap spare system as a server - what's the best bang/buck mem and processor to buy?

X2 means it is a dual core and as the above poster says there are no 3200+ model dual cores.

"Athlon 64" is the name of the AMD desktop processors and they come in three sockets (processors and motherboards for different sockets are not compatible):

AM2

Athlon 64 X2 is an Athlon 64 processor but with 2 cores (i.e. two processors in one, known as dual core).

I believe for future CPUs based on the existing Athlon 64 architecture AMD have dropped the "64" name and it is now Athlon X2 (as only dual cores remain in the line-up).
