Is an SP2 disk tied in the same way as an XP disk?

I've got to re-install XP on a friends PC; they've got the original XP disk so there should be no problem with that.

However, they can't find their orignal SP2 disk. Can I use my own SP2 disk against their XP copy - or is it tied to a PC/mobo/XP copy as such, or is any SP2 disk useable against ANY installed copy of XP?

Thanks.

no they don't

there's 11 different type of xp disc, not counting manufacturer discs, that bumps it up to about 66 different discs

the COA sticker will tell you what type of disc you need..

To be clear, he's got the XP disk, it's the SP2 that he doesn't have. So can I use my SP2 disk with his copy of XP?

Also, sorry - but what's a COA sticker??????

A SP2 disk will work with any XP disk be it home, Pro, OEM or Retail. It's exactly the same as what you can download from Microsofts website.

Thanks so much; I had a feeling that was the answer but didn't want to jump into a reinstall without knowing for sure.

Thx to all.
