Is an upgrade worth it?

My current spec is in my sig, I'm aware that it is getting on a bit now and I've been putting off playing a few games like Metro Last Light and Crysis 3 because I just won't get the best from them with my 5850 anymore, I've been very tempted by the price of the 7950's which should be a decent upgrade but is it worth it with the rest of my rig or should I just wait until I'm in a position to do a full rebuild?

I play at 1080 and have a Ocz 700w PSU.

Getting the 7950 will still be worth while upgrade, despite your rig being dated. It's a stunning price at the moment so you'd be better to get it while stocks last.

Do you have any budget to upgrade?

I could afford to I suppose but I really don't want to unless the rest is going to be a massive bottleneck on a 7950 if it was I think I'd wait for now.

I think you could gauge that yourself. Get the 7950 and see how it goes. Monitor your FPS, CPU/GPU load ratio and then you can work out what you want to do!

what's your case? it sure is more, but that today's price is silly. going price is £260 and some funny places still try to charge £350.

Its a cooler master 330 elite or something, but it has a pcie tv card and a pci sound card in there too so the 3 slot 7970 would mean I would have to lose the decent tv card.

I had the same CPU and GPU as you then bought a 7950. The CPU bottlenecked the GPU quite a bit, so don't be worried if the GPU isn't as fast as you think because as soon as you pair it with a 3570k or something, it will spring into action.

Better get on 'the blower' and get your order changed as the his 7950 icq boost is today only for £6 more than the one you ordered, it comes with a better cooler and higher clocks.
