Is anisotropic the same as asymmetric

To give some context:

What I am trying to say is you can't model a certain type of flow using symmetric boundary conditions because the flow is anisotropic.

Yes.

An example of anisotropic measurement would be standing near a brick wall and looking down it's length. The further into the distance your eye looks then the narrower the wall becomes. Hence it's dimensions appear to change and thus it is no longer symmetric in each dimension.
