Im thinking of jumping ship as after fiddling around with a few wp7 phones (mainly the nokia 800 and 900) i like the simplicity of the os.

Just worried about the apps on the marketplace as when an app gets released its usually appears on the app and play store first.

There is also one more thing. When i was using wp7 i didint feel the need to keep changing the display settings or moving the tiles around and with android im always changing and ten end up going to the stock launcher.

So anybody else thinking of jumping over to WP?

Since I haven't used it yet I don't know :) I'll have a play about with it but I'll probably just end up back with Android, haven't used it since Gingerbread but since I've been living with iOS for the past couple of months anything will be an improvement!

Windows 8 intrigues me though due to the way it crosses all platforms so I'm by no means ruling it out.

I loved the responsiveness of WP7, how well the UI suited Amoled screens etc. and the metro UI is design genius - somehow with the same resolution, windows phones feel much 'bigger' inside than android, due to the UI design and huge virtual panels from flicking around pages. It's nothing big, but using an android phone atm it actually makes a huge difference.

However, it depends on how well windows 8 runs on the hardware, and if developers make the move. While I'd miss the responsiveness, I'm not sure if I'd want to forgo all the apps I'd miss and swype style keyboard (I realise WP8 will likely never have this, but you never know)

I'll be jumping over ASAP, tablet on release day and phone as soon as I can afford it.

Apps are an issue, but with the budget of ms and the simplicity as well as millions of instant install bases. I think apps will grow fast.
One of my Essential apps is allready on the marketplace :). I expect a hole host of new apps to be released on launch and off course w7p apps work as well.

i will be moving def away from iphone , i have ios6 beta and to be honest its just more of the same ...... added siri etc and a few new features ...... still doesnt seem as integrated as even windows 7.5 with facebook etc

No chance. I really don't see it taking off, it has much of a chance than 7 which was also hyped up but doomed but there's too much negativity around W8 as a whole. MS keep trying and failing to compete with Apple and Google with so many products.

I think the WP8 wont take of greatly, but having W8 and RT the tablet might be better, as long as MS can get a lot of apps in at release, or shortly after. Then this in turn could lead to wp8 finally taking over. However no one can really tell how it will do, but I seriously think it will reach iOS or android any time soon, I could be wrong thou.

Personally I#m really thinking to get a wp8 at release just to try it out, and if I like it wi will stick with it.

Most definitely not any time soon, especially with android's growth, the mobiles just keep getting better and better as well as the software and apps/games. Who knows what google will bring in their next version of android, I keep not expecting much to change or anything really cool for most of the versions i.e. JB and GB, yet they just keep surprising us each time and I suspect that they will do for a long time yet.

And no way I could loose all the choice that we get with android, customizing anything to what you want.

I think right now, a lack of actual knowledge of WP and the lack of apps is really holding the platform back, and android is doing so well, and iPhone will thats just an iPhone.

I think to a mainstream user, who doesn't really do too much with his phone this wouldn't count, but for a power user it is a big deal, But i have a feeling the later is the minority.

I have a WP7 phone and love it. Far better than android, it just 'works'. Will be getting WP8 in feb at upgrade.

Really don't get why people always say this, "it just works", the majority of decent android phones do "just work".....

Have had experience with a number of decent android phones and they all "just work" out of the box as well, be it a desire, gs 2, GN, GS 3, NS, one X/S, heck even the HTC hero and samsung galaxy ace just work (granted they are slow and rather laggy, more so the hero).......

No tweaks have to be done in the first place, any one that says they have had problems (from my experience with friends and reading on forums etc.) has usually been due to them not having a clue i.e. installing apps that aren't required, messing with settings, which they don't need to. Could understand for versions before 2.2, but ever since 2.2, android has been rock solid for me and now with JB it is pretty much "complete".

I think right now, a lack of actual knowledge of WP and the lack of apps is really holding the platform back, and android is doing so well, and iPhone will thats just an iPhone.

Indeed! The lack of apps is the biggest killer and windows has come too late to the phone market, so it hasn't really "planted" itself like android and iphones. It could take of especially when we see amazing phones like Samsung's offering, but I can't help but feel that it will still get left behind just like windows 7 as there is just sooooo many android phones to choose from and then as you said the iphone is the iphone :p IIRC there was an article saying that even Samsung's bada phones over took windows 7 phones, which isn't a good sign! :o

And yup, the average joes couldn't care less about the customization, but even without the customization android is still superb, friends and family who have used my android phones (stock and not much done to them) have always been very impressed with the way the phone works and loved just the basic simple things of android, biggest thing they liked was homescreens and the widgets, especially sense on one S, they loved the way all the required info was just shown right on the homescreen/lockscreen without having to open apps etc. and the way it was presented.

EDIT:

Found the link to that about bada and windows 7 phones, it is growing faster than windows 7 phones:

Naa i don't see WP getting the same traction as Android or IOS it will stay a niche product the same as windows on a phone ever was. In my eyes it's IOS with non of the benefits.
