I've built my missus a pc using my old athlon x2 250 from my first pc. That plus an ssd is really snappy for office work and light use.
Is anyone still using a chip as old as mine?

I'm still using an i5 2500k running at 4.3ghz and I still regard it as a fast processor. Gone are the days when I used to buy a new CPU every year. There just isn't the need anymore. Will probably be at least another two years before I do a rebuild.

As someone who does a lot of photo editing, I can tell you that my 3570k is plenty fast (overclocked to 4.5ghz). Even heavy filters are nice and smooth for me. Sure an i7 would be nice, but an i5 is more than capable. My old e8400 was long I the tooth years ago so god knows how you are struggling by with that old relic!
