Is Applecare worldwide?

Will likely be buying an iPad3 over in the states, just wondering if I should buy Applecare over there at the same time, or just get it over here instead?
 
So if I buy the iPad3 and Applecare in the US, the warranty and aftercare will be fully honoured in the Uk?

Unless you buy the 3G version - the iPhone and iPad 3G warranties are limited to country of purchase. iPad WiFi is worldwide.
 
Didn't know that, good thing you mentioned that as I was toying with the idea of getting a 3G iPad from America!
 
I'm almost certain you wouldn't be able to get a 3G iPad from the states anyway, as you would have to get it on either of the carriers here, Verizon and AT&T, both require you having a full contract with them (they don't offer a PAYG kind of service for iPhones of iPads), so they wouldn't allow you to get one anyway.
 
Technically iPad/iPhone Applecare from the U.S is only valid in the U.S according to the website and the Terms & Conditions.

This Plan is offered and valid only in the fifty states of the United States of America, the District of Columbia and Canada. This Plan is not offered to persons who have not reached the age of majority. This Plan may not be available in all states or provinces, and is not available where prohibited by law.

Saying that, it is extremely unlikely you will have any issues if you need support as everyone has already said it tends to be globally anyway, even when not stated. But the T&C's do actually state it's only valid in the U.S so who knows.

Whereas the Applecare T&Cs for the portables which are advertised as global coverage says the following :

This Plan is offered and valid only if you are a resident of the fifty states of the United States of America, the District of Columbia, Canada and other countries in which Apple or its affiliated companies offers the Plan that are set forth http://www.apple.com/legal/applecare/countrylist.html.

Thanks VaderDSL, I suppose the next question is Can I buy applecare in the Uk for a product purchased in the US?
 
I used to work for Apple tech support and *believe* you can, as long as it is purchased within the initial 1 year warranty, however it has been a number of years since I worked for Apple, so would advise strongly you call or visit your local Apple Store and check from the horses mouth so to speak, before purchase.

Without meaning to be an arse. Source? I'd hate to buy it all, have it break and have no comeback.

Me buying a MacBook Pro in the states while on holiday in 2006. It getting a logic board swap under warranty and a battery recall with no issues at the local Apple Store.
 
Just to elaborate on what VaderDSL has provided, if you purchase AppleCare elsewhere in the world, you are bound to their T&Cs. You can, however, purchase AppleCare in a country other than the one that the product comes from.

In terms of the service you will get if you have an issue with a device in a country other than the one where the device was purchase from, it is entirely possible that if a major repair needs to be performed, that they send the device to the country of origin. This has happened before. It's just something to be aware of.

The portable machines are advertised as global coverage under Applecare, things like iPhones/iPads aren't.
 
From my iPad Manual :

Apple may restrict service to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the hardware product. Apple will provide warranty service either (i) at an Apple Retail or AASP location, where service is performed at the location, or the Apple Retail or AASP may send the product to an Apple repair service location for service, (ii) by sending you prepaid way bills (and if you no longer have the original packaging, Apple may send you packaging material) to enable you to ship the product to Apple’s repair service location for service, or (iii) by sending you user-installable new or refurbished replacement product
or parts to enable you to service or exchange your own product (“DIY Service”).

It says may, which I guess is murky on purpose to cover their bottom as regards iOS devices with carrier features in certain markets. I believe they would service it in the UK.
