So I need to help out my dear old gran, the digital switch over has happened in her area and although she can watch tv with the integrated tuner on her LG, she is unable to record on her old video.

She had BT broadband installed a while ago so is BT vision the way to go? How does it actually work? is it just through the aerial and on demand comes through the broadband?

It needs to be bullet proof and easy to use, perhaps a better option would be one of these freeview boxes with built in recorders? I doubt she'll ever use on demand.

im just canceling this, needs an normal tv antenna and a bb connection to work.

it easy to use yes, however the recording is shocking and most of the time is simply doesnt work for me. I have had new boxes sent, engineers and hubs and tests of all types. BB and phone works fine but for some reason my recordings dont work 40% of the time..

convinced my parents to avoid it and the bought a freeveiw box and recorder (LG i think)

simple and it works..

hope that helps..

I was debating this over sky... But at every turn I saw bad reviews....

Go for a humax mate, excellent machines and you should be able to set it up so it's used exclusively. Least then she doesn't have to mess about changing inputs etc.

I haven't had any problems with BT Vision apart from the occasional need to restart it when it hangs.

Even the occasional hang is not ideal, unfortunately she is too far away to pop round to help with things like this :(

I think a freeview box with pvr is looking like the best option, I will have a look round. Any recommendations for a unit under £100?

Worst thing about this is she's going to have ANOTHER remote to lose :p

I think you can get all in one remotes that are simple to use. Similar in a way to those simple mobile phones that are basic, for those who are not tech savvy.

Think i'm going to go with the Humax PVR9300T. I gather the Humax remote will be able to control the tv so might not need an all in one.
