infornt of my PC
Hi
OK so I am building a new PC for many different home uses, a bit of conferencing, streaming, games and some 4K movies.

Is 128GB overkill? Would 64 be plenty or if I have the budget then take advantage of it?
(Looking at 3600s with a Ryzen 9)

Using 16gb at the moment and it’s a bit old and laggy, but I have budget to go to 128.

Maybe fast 2x32

Out of curiosity, is there much difference other than price between

BALLISTIX 64GB (2X32GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHZ DUAL CHANNEL KIT £349.99
and
Corsair vengeance RGB Pro 64 (2x32GB) DDR4 £499.99
If its going to save £150 and there is not much in it might as well save the difference.

I’m sensing some frustration here. Everyone has a view and all opinions are welcome.
By asking the question I have a better idea and can make a more informed decision.
At least now I realise that it is a waste to spend on something that won’t be used which I
Wouldn’t have done had I not posted the question.

Sounds like you've decided already but as a general point, for gaming money spent on GPU will always be more worthwhile once you get past a minimum threshold of RAM.
As PC builders we generally have a natural inclination to build 'balanced' systems but for gaming there should be a heavy bias towards GPU.

I have taken the advice of the many to help me come to a decision. Unfortunately I need a gpu and in today’s market so putting the funds towards that. I try to build something that will last me as long as possible without.having to upgrade and spend more on the PC. I normally get 8 years and about 60,000 hours use before it stars to fail o the point of annoying me.

I guess it depends on budget and what you are willing to spend just as much as requirements. You could tell someone not to buy a Ferrari as most of the time they won't go over 30mph. It's human nature to default to getting as much as you can for your purchase even if you don't use it all.
If its a case of purely being practical then why buy loads of RGB stuff to light up a box? It serves no functional purpose other than making the components glow in the dark.
I do have a limit though as to how much "excess requirement" I will go to but again it depends on price and % of the overall build cost. If I spend for example £2K on a new PC and it will cost £300 for 32GB, £400 for 64GB and £500 for 128GB. If I budgeted £350 for 32Gb but an extra £50 is going to double my RAM, in the
grand scheme of things, I may think it is worth it to me. I may have budgeted £600 for RAM, or even spent less on other components than anticipated, in which case I might say that I may not use 128GB but it falls inside what I have allocated.
