Hey Guys,

I currently have the Pentium D 945 as you can see in my sig, and it's running @ 4.4GHZ but I downed it to 4.1GHZ. Now I just ran a benchmark and to be honest it was terrible. So I just thinking is it worth upgrading to a C2D?

Defiantly, not only do you get two cores, but a higher cache.

Easy answer to this question hell yes!

Currently this upgrade can be done cheaply at the moment and it will be so much better and more so if you OC it.

Here is a basic idea of what i would get in your case:

Gigabyte DS3P Mobo £88.11
2GB Geil DDR2 PC6400 £70.49
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 £148.04
Tuniq Tower CPU Cooler £31.71

Thats all form OCUK with that setup you should be able to easily clock the E6600 upto between 3.2 - 3.8Ghz depending on the chip you get, also this chip has the 4MB of L2 cache which is beneficial in some cicumstances, but the E6600's do OC very well.

Also that Tuniq Tower cooler will keep in nice and cool under load on air so that would be my 2p :)

Have fun!

BTW thats all from the OCUK site!

Hi Again,

I will be running Abit QuadGT (Waiting for it), and I am hopefulyl going to water which mean I can overclock it madly. I have 2GB PC2-6400 ram etc, and wouldn't mind a E6600.

If that is one of your reasons for wanting to upgrade then I'd just forget it. Whilst benchmarking has some value, although it does seem that some people place a greater emphasis on them, to ensure that all is running at its optimum I would not use that at all to suggest that I need to upgrade.

Even if you do decide to go for it I would suggest waiting until the next round of Intel's price cuts and then see what the cost of your intended CPU will be.

I have a Celeron 346 at 4.6 - 5.2GHz (Change it depending on what I'm doing) - you think a Pentium D is bad :p
I find a lot of Pentium Ds still around - if you can live with the performance, I'd wait like me.
I get called Willy One Core at my LAN parties lmao!

Ohhh dear.... oops lol :p

Haha I think in all honesty, whichever way you go CPU wise you'll always have a system that feels pretty nippy, Pentium Ds aren't the bleeding edge but can still put up a fight, but if your set on Conroe go for it :D

TBH, I'd stay put at this point. Barcelona is due soon and I think this will cause a bit of a shake up in the processor market so you could well snag a bargain if you wait a bit longer.

hee hee - I know what you mean :D

Maybe I just got to that point after years and years of constant 'upgrading' to finally throw my towel in the ring and enjoy what I have got and not place the same emphasis on benchmarks as I once did.
