my laptop has Hynix 2666mhz 8gb stick and want to upgrade to 16gb, but debating if to stick to same model or replace, but on the cheap.

I could be wrong, but I thought Hynix were mainly OEM, so unlike Crucial the warranty may have to go through the retailer. Their website seems to confirm this:

"Is a product still under warranty?
How do I receive a replacement for a faulty product?
The preinstalled memory in my computer failed. Can I get a replacement?

SK hynix has made commitments on RMA and Warranty with our OEMs and authorized distributors to whom we have offered return privileges.
Therefore, RMA/Warranty issues are should be assisted by your place of purchase.
Please contact your place of purchase for services regarding RMA or Warranty.
For other inquiries, please send us your inquiry through our website.
You may also contact our closest Sales Branch."

i'd just get the cheapest reliable brand that runs same speed and similar timings or same

thanks for reply. to be honest i havent heard much about Hynix it just seems to be what Asus shipped the Tuf laptop with or least in my case. it came from argo as i did the buy now pay later and its been like a year now, so id imagine its either in warranty still or only had a standard 1 year thing, i cant remember, but the laptop is fully paid for, so its mine to do as i please. it doesnt need any replacement parts, i just want to upgrade the ram and hard drive.

thanks for reply, that this what i was thinking with the cruicals unless i can find a cheap 16gb fury kit.

I believe Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron (who make Crucial) are the only semiconductor manufacturers of DRAM (or the major one's im aware of anyway). Everyone else rebrand's from their chips. Just check for compatibility, and get whichever is cheaper.
