Is DAoC still worth checking out? I'm downloading the trial now. I remember when it was big and that recently they gave it a revamp or something, but I've never played it.

It is the best 3D MMO I'd ever played but that was many, many years ago during it's prime. It looks visually poor by todays standards though. It's PvP or RvR (Realm vs Realm) was and imo is still unsurpassed.

Hell it destroys my current MMO (Tera Online) in a great deal of areas. The Trials of Atlantis expansion however killed it for a lot of folk including me. No idea what it is like now and I still feel tempted to return.

Not played for ages, its dated now but is still fun.
A few of the old daoc devs are now doing the pvp for Guild Wars 2

Uthgard is still popular which is a classic daoc server.

Man the memories of an ALB relic raid followed by locking up for 5 minutes then appearing dead.... :)

56k SUCKS

I went back to this when Vampires came out I had ADSL/cable and it was just as amusing.

A classic server with new frontiers would be spot on... Pretty much every expansion pack ruined the game one way or another with retarded OP classes and abilities.

as long as there was 2k people playing i think it would be fine... Though id expect them to be incredibly hardcore :P

Right it's set up and I'm on that Uthgard free server. Total n00b.

It looks visually poor by todays standards though.

Certain elements of the graphics are dated but certain elements are actually really good, better than WoW I would say.

I like it so far.

make sure you do the tutorial fully, it will give you decent gear and a horse to start with.

Interface was old feeling 2 years after it launched, never actually improved really. Loved the game, sadly I can't see me playing it's "spiritual successor" Dominus due to it's futuristic setting.

DAoC was my first mmo and I remember my first character spawning at Prydwen Keep and I thought it looked amazing, this was early 2000s. A friend and I then headed to Camelot and as I entered Cottswold Village music began to play and I was hooked.

I wish they'd just redo the game with new graphics and UI. I want to be in Darkness Falls with my Scout whilst it's owned by his or mids again. So much fun.

I used to love this game, my favourite MMO by far. Just reading the server rules on the uthgard site makes me want to play again but I just don't have the time.

Used to love playing my friar Ultrastaff :p on DAOC, was on 56k dial up when it came out, i had to do relic raids looking at the floor as i would lag out and crash if i looked up LOL. When i got BB i did my first Relic raid looking forward, it brought a tear to my eye :D

Reading this thread is making me want to play again, but I think it would just let me down. Slow leveling, big grinding and TERA has ruined the thought of tab targeting :(.

Uthgard is definitely worth checking out if you want even a glimpse of that old community feeling :)

Played there a couple of months myself now and was surprised right away at how busy the low level areas are, how "old" it felt, which'll be a turn-off for most new players I suppose, and really just how friendly people seemed to be, slightly reminiscent of the old Prydwen community. People randomly asking if you need help as they run by, throwing you a heal when you finish combat as they run by, putting up AoE buffs, giving up their spot in a group to let someone else in, respecting 'camped' spots, which was always a community ideology in DAoC contrary to so many thinking it was 'in the CoC' & even regular group chatter.

Bare in mind I had a much better experience levelling up in Mid than in Hib, seemed a cooler bunch of people, have not played Alb. On Uthgard, obviously.
