is DDR3 worth it?

im stuck between a rock and a hard thing. i want good gaming machine and was wondering about using ddr3 dual channel memory such as this

but then i have to get an am3 board or twice the price of am2. is it worth that extra money ? thanks

im using a tri core processor so its prety good. the am3 board im going for is 115. could i get a decenmt am2 board for much less? the ram i can get $30 cheaper. will ddr2 ram work on am3 board? thanks
