Is Dell still crap?

I was thinking of buying a Dell XPS 15, but than I remembered the horrible experience with Dell couple of years ago. Back in 2012, I bought the newly released XPS 13. The laptop randomly turned off and the screen had dead pixels everywhere. I phoned Dell and it took me to an Indian help centre and one of their tech support didn't know what dead pixels were and blamed me for the black dots on the screen, and refused to issue me a refund. I than had to phone back and hoping someone with knowledge in computers will pick-up. They did and I manage get a refund.

I'm pretty sure everyone here knows about Dell's crappy customer service and lack of quality control on their products. It is now 2017 and I would like to know if Dell has changed? Do they still have bad customer service and terrible quality control?

In my experience Dell's customer service when it comes to warranty work & returns are pretty good. Usually if you have a fault they will assign an engineer to come out to inspect & repair the fault within a few working days. Also when I've returned laptops to them in the past which are within the 14 day window they've always arranged & paid for the return via the courier themselves. The only gripe I have with their customer support as you have already highlighted is that they still seem to be based abroad and sometimes tend to read off a script when it comes to complicated issues.

Quality control issues are still known these days with various models but it's purely luck of the draw, the XPS 15 9560 that I recently purchased is being returned tomorrow as I'm going for another brand elsewhere but I really do like the laptop for what it is, it's absolutely faultless in everyway and no QC issues with it at all. The biggest QC issue I seem to read with these is to do with the display, like you say dead / stuck pixels in particular but again it boils down to the panel lottery.

Liam.
