DirectX 12 was announced in 2014 and launched in 2015, making it 6 or 7 years old. DX 11 lasted 6 or 7 years, but there's no replacement for DX 12 in sight.
DX 12.1 Ultimate is the replacement, they just called it 12.1 instead of 13.
They should have called it 13 because 12.1 Ultimate is a significant upgrade with many next gen features
