is dual core any hassle

hi all

currentley have a 3200 a64 single core


been thinking of going dual core but i see post such as


grea if you do multi stuff and encoding


turn off single core to play game right


am i right in thinking that its a load of hassle and you have to keep switching from dual core to single core are there any problems with applications and so on

basically i use my comp for everything

encoding
playing dvds and music
games
streaming to my 360

but not all at once

kids want me to build them a pc for xmas i have a sugo with a gigabyte mobo ,gig of ram 6800gs and amd 64 3200


im wondering if i can sneek an upgrade in there with out the wife knowing and putting my bits in kids comp with a new case lol
