just about to get my first dx10 graphics card... although im not sure if dx10 will run with XP?? ive heard rumours dx10 will only work with vista?

can anyone confirm?

surely microsoft wouldnt force me to spend another £150 just to have dx10....

Wrong forum, but the answer is that DX10 uses techniques that require the graphics stack and memory management from Vista, that are simply not available in XP. However, as has been said, it's not really being used very well, so you're not missing much.

DX10 is hardly used, so don't worry about it too much. If you get XP you are honestly not missing much. Farcry 2 and Crysis boasts DX10 implemention but the graphics are identical (although in Crysis' case you will need to do some quick config tweaking to achieve the same effects)

Yes unfortunately Microsoft would have you spend another £60-150 to get DX10 functionality.

Surely you are not that ignorant?

i was being sarcastic, guess it doesnt come over well on forums!

its just i already have Vista and XP on other computers and i actually prefer XP...

guess ill just see what everything runs like with dx9 and XP when i get my new rig and then think about getting Vista for it... not really enthusiastic about spending that much money on something that might not be much benefit... but then agaisn i have spent a lot of money getting a DX10 card (280 GTX) in the first place.

Don't get Vista just for DX10. Play your games in DX9 (you'll hardly notice any difference) until Windows 7 comes out. The beta is very promising.
