is enough funding given to deep sea exploration

You may be right, but that video has nothing to do with "deep" sea.
Video is about 2500m below the surface.
Deepest known part of the sea is 9500+m

Surely there's got to be something pretty groundbreaking down there?

Well at that depth there is very little of interest, the Challenger Deep for instance, the deepest known point of the Mariana Trench at around 11,000m, out of the three expeditions to the bottom all they have observed a whole lot of diatomaceous ooze, i.e algae and a few select species such as flat fish, shrimps, worms and sea cucumbers. The only thing of interest about it is that it is very, very deep.

It is in fact the (relatively) shallower parts of the ocean that are of the most interest because they are still able to support a diverse ecosystem.

I wouldnt mind if more funding was spent on sea exploration, we currently have only around 10% of the sea floor accurately mapped, I still think theres a lot yet to be discovered in the remainder.
