Is Eve down at the mo? Just signed up but can't connect.

Any race can do anything!

Make sure you get a quite balanced character though, Perception/Willpower for fighting.

Intelligence/Memory for Science/Electronics rubbish.

If you can get balanced attributes it's best!

Very quick, Q.

What race would I be best to start as or is it only cosmetic?
lol
well, it depends, you gonna play for a long time then its not realy an issue, try to make your charicter have even stats as they are all required for skills, charisma least of all tho so that doesn't matter, unless you want to do loads of missions
damn you skully

Did somebody say EVE?

In all honesty, choosing a character shouldn't be about optimising your training time, it should be about picking a race that fits your playing style and balancing its attributes as best you can between perception, intelligence and memory. As your character's race can never be changed, it is better to pick a race whose face you might be able to stand looking at every time you look at your character sheet for many years to come. (Especially true since your portrait is displayed under your username if you ever happen to post on the official EVE-Online forums.)

This guide is specifically for helping you pick the best possible allotment of additional points and hertiage selection for whatever race/face you might wish to pick, without being stuck playing a race because others tell you 'it is the best.'

The percentage differential displayed under the bloodlines relates directly to how faster or slower, on average the best stats listed compare to the Caldari Detis bloodline. This is the reason why EVE on a whole contains a large majority of Caldari population, due to the fact their stats had the 'ideal' for training. However, the percentage is listed only as a guide, and should be taken quite lightly. You will not forever have a 'gimped' character if you do not pick the absolutely min/maxing best bloodline, at most you will have maybe an extra few hours of training per month behind these Caldari.

This is especially so with the Caldari Achura bloodline recently released. It seems CCP absolutely adores their precious Caldari race, and gave them an ever better base stat distribution, due to the absolute minimizing of charisma, which is a quite a worthless stat in gameplay mechanics. The percentages just as a guide, however honestly pick a bloodline you actually like-- such as a face you like to stare at and want to be associated with as your main character, don't just pick a race because it is 6% better than everything else.

Honestly, even if you picked a bloodline with a hilariously low perception, you will be at most only 10% worst than pre-patch best of the Caldari Deteis. This is what, one or two extra days of training per month? Hence, don't just pick a race because the stats are soooooo much better than others or something. That is lame.

Especially since in six months like more than half of the entire population of this game are going to be those Achura Caldari. The general sentiment towards people picking Achura from longtime EVE players is quite simply summed up as: "screw you."

Quite true. With Gunnery V you start with more SP, but those SP can't really be utilised particularly well at the start of the game. Gunnery only gives you 2% improvement on gun firing time, which at the start of the game is not as important as being able to use a better ship. :)
