Dropped in value about 5% by my reckoning. So my £1500 of imac should be costing me about £50 less. Tight wads or what by not adjusting the pricing !

No business operates like that. Like any other business their costs will change all the time and it would be madness to change prices every other day to reflect that.

Anyway, how do you know that some other cost (say fuel used to import them) hasn't gone up by a similar amount?

If you bought it from the US then yes, but you are buying from the UK.

That's what I was just thinking. Only thing different would be the power adapter right?

Still would you save much on actually buying in the US? Surely what ever money you do save you'd end up forking out on postage.

They're just about to replace/upgrade the MacBook Airs so you'll get better value for money on those in about a weeks time.

Companies buy stock and components at $X if the value of the dollar falls then they've still spent $X on stock and components so unless they want to lose money they can't really lower their prices until everything they bought at $X has been used up.

Also, most large companies have a set exchange rate they use internally to help even out currency fluctuations over the course of a quarter or even a year. So again a quick dip in currency rates won't normally cause prices to fall right away until the next internal company rate is set.

I never really hesitated to spend 59p on an app, the increase to 69p won't really make any difference.

Hardware prices maybe going down? They better not go up!

We’ve been getting word from some international Apple retailers that not only are MacBook Airs, Minis and White MacBooks getting updated soon, but those Macs are also going to see modest-significant price drops in some countries we’ve polled. While we can’t get into the specifics of where and how much, we can tell you some models are being reduced more than the equivalent of $100.

But then the app store prices going up...

http://www.macworld.com/article/161147/2011/07/app_prices.html

The adjustments took place during downtime of the App Store and have resulted in price increases across the board for UK consumers, as well as those in Mexico and Norway. Euro prices don’t appear to have changed. For the lowest tier (99 cents in the US), the UK price of £0.59 has risen to £0.69. (In Australia this was a drop of AU$1.19 to AU$0.99).

Content on the next tier, which was pegged at £1.19, is now £1.49, while the tier above that rises to £1.99 from £1.79.
