Just bought a Gigabyte Z77 board but where is the firewire? I noticed that none of the Gigabyte Z77 boards have firewire?

With USB2 and Esata Firewire had no chance, and now with USB3 you dont need it. I think that they only include it if people have got old devices, like on motherboards you still have a floppy connector but when was the last time you used a HD 1.44 MB floppy disk

This really, Firewire has been dead in the water for ~ a decade now, aside from macs nobody really used it in a big way, some people do still use it and manufacturers still make some products but by the time it had picked up enough steam to overtake parallel and fight off USB 1.0/1.1 then USB 2.0 was on the scene and when FW800 came the only advantage it had over USB2.0 was for external HDD's and E-SATA was there to nullify that advantage.

Hopefully Thunderbolt won't suffer the same fate as it seems pretty cool, but for mainstream use its totally outclassed by USB 3.0.

This Thunderbolt looks interesting. Upto 40gb sec... *raises eyebrow* not bad! ;)

Hey, I cant help but think of the P-47 & A-10 American aircraft whenever I hear Thunderbolt mentioned.

My 800D has a firewire port at the front, but the RIVE doesn't seem to have one.

Only firewire device I ever used was an old iPod I had.
