Just install a sound card.

Sound card detection will be set to Auto so that installing a sound card will disable the onboard sound anyway.

Edit: Make sure the motherboard is not damaged

The link has been removed so I don't know what it was, but if your built-in soundcard is dead, the easiest thing to do would be to just buy a pci sound card. :)

it was a gumtree link, i wasnt quite sure if it was allowed, but i guess it wasnt lol.

thanks for replies, while a sound card can be achieved i didnt really want to go to that hassle, but if you think its not worth it then i will save my money, mean nothing wrong with my motherboard i have, just when i saw a gaming one that is usually around £100 for £25 it seems like one of those best take it moment.

what should i look out for then if i was to buy a used board? trying to set up sli/xfire again would be cool.
