I've had Flickr for about 3 years now and i'm not sure why i do now!? I uploaded some photos to it yesterday for the first time in about a year!

I don't like showing my photographs and i dread to think what goes through peoples heads as they look at them! :p

I have often got the request to use one of my photos in a online article but never had anyone approach me with a serious job offer. Has anyone landed any jobs or got any cash through using Flickr?

Just wandering if it's worth maybe putting a bit more effort into using it.

What's everyone else's opinion on it? I know it's only like £15 a year so you can't go wrong really.

Depending on how you look at it, it's always good to have another outlet for your work online. The more places it is, the more likely it is to be picked up by influential blogs etc, and the more likely it is to be seen by someone in a position to offer you a job. Art directors, agents, etc. They're rarely enough on their own either, and if you're searching for more commercial work (IE anything not involving the public), there are more official lines to persue that will have a higher chance of yeilding better results.

If all you want to do is show your work to some people (which it doesn't sound like you do) then it's fine, same with DeviantArt.

It's great at the moment as family can look at some pictures i took at a wedding which is nice!

I don't think you'll get a job from it unless you're tip-top. It's more of a convenience for showing people your photos, or hoarding empty praise to further your illusions of grandeur :p

I use it to share pictures with family and friends, dead easy to upload to and share to forums etc. I used to use it as a backup as well (uploading the full size photo), but I use a home server for that now (also since getting a DLSR I use RAW) so only upload web sized stuff.

Agreed.
It's also a nice little community to meet people, learn from those willing to teach and share. Not all groups, but a good handful are great in my opinion.

Yep, Flickr's great, it's led to me selling four photos recently. I get a Pro account free with my BT deal.

I got an account on there, uploaded about 6 pics to it and haven't used it since, rather upload to my own website now
