Is frozen salmon "bad"

I've got an issue with eating heathily so have recently starting buying Aldi's Wild pink Frozen Salmon.

I stick two fillets in tin foil with some seasoning and bake for 25 mins and serve with some boiled eggs + toast/salad.


Is there any harm by eating frozen fillets or should I go for the "fresher" unfrozen stuff? All of that stuff seems to be farmed and I've heard its not as good for you.

Any thoughts and opinions?
 
Stupid thing is they can't call wild salmon organic but reared salmon in pens fed organic feed is organic.

Quite a bit on supermarket fishmongers slabs will be pre frozen thawed and presented, only if you go to your fishmonger will you stand a chance of great salmon and it will be a fortune.

Have you thought about tinned fish?
 
Is tinned fish better?

I'm happy to pay for food, but can't be buying fresh fish as that is crazy crazy money.

My main thing is that it is easy to cook. Can you easily heat up tinned fish?
 
Frozen fillets (as long as they are just fillets and no breadcrumbs or anything else) will be a shed load healthier than burgers and lots of other processed foods.

So you're not doing yourself a disservice. Salmon is an excellent source of healthy fats, protein, Vitamin A, C, B-12, B6, magnesium and potassium. :)
 
Fish is alway frozen anyway, it is caught out at awa, gutted, and then into ice boxes. The ships stay out for days at a time usually.

No, there's no harm eating frozen. The only real difference is a taste and texture difference from properly fresh, but otherwise it's pretty healthy. I would say most of the nutrients are conserved well in the freezing process.

Frozen would be much healthier than tinned. I think the fish may be heat treated when tinned, therefore losing some nutrients, and you get some very low level metal impurities from the tin.

I have a BSc in Chemistry if that makes you feel more confident in my response.

Fresh fish isnt that expensive in some supermarkets. Sainsburys was really expensive but lidl is the sort of price that we have fresh fish 2 times a week.
But nothing wrong with frozen. Some of the fresh has been already frozen at some point. Its not that much different from buying fresh and freezing it yourself. So carry on :)
 
food unwrapped did a piece on frozen and fresh fish. There conclusion was to just get frozen, you are guaranteed good quality fish every time you don't know how old the fresh stuff on the counter is, it could have been sat there for days.

obviously if you can get it straight off the boat you will be better but that's not a option for most people.
