Is getting a server for Arma 3 worth it ?

So myself and 3 mates play arma in private lobbies we host on our pcs, performance is ok but i get the impression it could be better if we used a proper server.

Would renting a server be worth it for such a small group of players ? or will it offer no benefits over p2p hosting with such a small player count (4) ? if it does offer benefits for small player counts what are they ? better frame rate ? less desync ?

Any sites you would recommend renting a server from ? don't really want it to have more than say 8 players as we never play with more than 6 people.

Hello mate, I run a public server for 40 people, If its a private server i would say just use a local machine to host, Running a public one is hard work but great fun, Why not head over to my server one eve and have a play. New people always welcome, Its a Invade server so its all against AI

A server would be better, but they're expensive. ArmA loves a fast server CPU and most people look for xeons, which naturally cost a fair bit per month. you could get away with a fairly small setup if its just for 4 of you but i'd certainly say the cost doesnt justify the gains.

If you're intending to play a lot, and grow your group, even to say 8-10 people then perhaps Id go for it if 2-3 of you are willing to split the costs.

beware though, if you're making your own missions, some things break or are at least different when you run the mission on a dedicated server compared to hosting locally so you'll need to check out some of those peculiarities.

Ok i got an 8 slot server from gameservers.com which i can join but i have no idea how to set it to run missions i want. Its just running some default content mission at the moment... i didn't set it up to do this, it was just running the first time i joined the server.
I can't find anything relevant in the gameservers config page either.

Im very confused, anyone able to help ?+

Gameservers.com are utter rubbish btw, lag lag lag lag lag. But this is why they are so cheap, same as all these cheap paid for hosting sites.

Easiest way will be to just log in as admin using

#login xyz

then type

#missions

and select what mission you want to play.
