Hey, I'm thinking of getting the new Guild Wars when it comes out as I've found out it runs in the same worlds as the others. I wanted to know before I buy it, is it any good and how many people play it?

IMO Its not that great and it got boring very quickly.

/Runs from Guild war Fanatics :p

Good for the first few months, then dull. But thats just me I know people that have 2000 hours playtime  (I got 100 hours in the same time period :p)

Its like any other online rpg, boring as hell if you give it a chance to be. WoW, EQII, etc are all borefests too if given the chance.

I personally like GW tho. I come back to it for a few months then have a break. Another chapter is coming out this month (Nightfall), so no doubt I'll be back at it again.

I like the fact it takes some real skill and tactics to be successful in PvP. The PvE is decent too, altho chapter 2 (Factions) sucked a bit in that regard as it went too quick. The original chapter (Prophecies) is much more lengthy as regards PvE content....and of course GW has no monthly fees. Even if you buy all the chapters like me it still works out a lot cheaper than other games in terms of bang for buck imo :)

So my advice, give it a try!

its a good game :) been playing over 2 years now (if you count the beta events) :D (i still havnt finished it  )

i dont rate their support though, i have a problem with my account at the moment and its been over 30 hours now with just a reply saying "We are handling all customer requests in the order of their arrival, and you will receive an answer to your request as soon as possible" :( they cant possibly be that busy surely?

I'm currently taking a break from it until Nightfall is released, we have an OcUK guild if you fancy joining (see sticky)

1600 hours and counting :)

You have no idea how bad NCsoft support can be, just take a look at the corrupt world of Lineage II. If you have a open support ticket you can phone there USA number and what ever the problem is will most likely be delt with there and then. Having an open ticket when you call seems to help hugely as it helps them verify you are who you say you are.

i need 2 new gw:prophecies collectors edition keys because i recently purchased them and the divine aura doesn't work on either :( i dont mind waiting for a few days but the last thing i asked them a year ago was dealt with in 2 hours, 30 hours seems a lifetime compared to that, lol

wouldnt phoning USA cost a lot?

I play it a fair bit because it doesn't require you to dedicate hours at a time like WoW, plus there are no monthly fee's which is a nice bonus.

Basically if you're after a pick up and play experience then go for it. There's a free trial you can download if you want to give it a go.

it's definately worth buying i'd say, going through the missions with your friends is a lot of fun (it's sorta like WoW, without the emphasis on questing (even though there are still quests) and grind).

But yeah, it does get dull after a few months

Guild wars, i'll sum it up for you...

# Good graphics
# No montly fee
# Really bad community attitude
# In game help from players consists of "zomgerzsssssssss i r kill 2k wiv 20k purkle sword kkk, kek lol nubzors"
# Never get any groups and if you do expect little or no skill from the other players.
# Stupid pvp system which just undermines the whole reason of a MMORPG

But apart from that its fine :)

Edit: sorry about that "rude" word

tbh I like guild wars
its the CS of the RPG world, you pick up for a bit and put down for a while, get yourself in a good guild and you'll always have somthing to do!

I love Guild Wars. Got it late last year, and completed the Prophecies campaign and put it down for a few months. Then I got into it again with a few friends and played it for a few months again solid. And I mean like all day solid :D

Then I got Factions and I kinda got bored of it again. No doubt I'll pick it up again. I found Factions to be a bit meh but its got some good missions... you just need to be lvl20 really otherwise nobody will let you in their group. Annoying.

Prophecies is very addictive for me. Love farming and racking in the gold :P

Depends who you mix with.

Factions was a bit crap, hopefully Nightfall will bring back the old magic :)

wish I could get my chars to lvl 20, anyone got a guide on how to power level in GW?

As said, just do the main missions and quests, it's the best way, power levelling just gets tedious. If you just want a level 20 to hop into PvP, you can simply make a PvP character.
