Good Afternoon

A friend of mine decided after getting his new rig to split his old one. Sadly he has no experience of computers so he just bodged it. Due to the bodge he managed to have the cooler rubbing compound on the AM3 cpu socket. Has anyone got any advise how to clean it? I assume IPA and a needle?

Oh and to make it worse, I cant be 100% its the stock compound but due to how think it was i am going to assume it is.

It's probably ok as the pin sockets are "conductive" individually (i.e. that's how the CPU pin contacts the motherboard connection). So, as long as it's not smeared across multiple pins in one blob, it should be alright.

It should be ok. Being a socket and not LGA like Intel, it will be fine. Just wipe off what you can with IPA from the surface.,
