ok,running a system put together with ocuk purchases,

q6600 quad at stock 2.4(stock hsf)
nvidia 8800gtx
4gb corsair msx 6400 c4
gigabyte p35cds3r
hiper powerpack 670w powerpack
coolermaster stacker 832
win xp sp2

pc keeps shutting down.checked in bios and cpu temp is between 58-6oc,
presume it will get hotter when i get to windows, what temp should i be looking for to get a steady system, can the hsf cope with these temps, also play cod4 a lot and system always seems to crash.
am i right in thinking that playing cod4 will put the system under more load and increase temps?
so many questions but if anyone can help i would be very gratefull

thank you wessa

BIOS usually runs hotter than Windows, near 60C is rather high though (even for stock cooler).

Have you run a recent version of CoreTemp?

Are you sure all the 4 pushpins are firmly secured?

Have you run memtest86 and made sure the memory voltage is set correctly (many boards undervolt performance memory)?

definitly sounds like a cpu isnt seated properly or something simlar would reset heatsink as it shouldnt be that high temp.

What air flow do you have in the case (in and out)? That does sound very hot. The chip should drop its multiplier/speed when idle in Windows as well so should be quite cool.

1x120mm intake front
2x120mm intake in door panel
1x120mm exhaust at top
1x120mm exhaust in rear but thats not working(just discovered)
still getting 58-60 oc with door open

spot on guys, heatsink only seating on 3 pins,4th has been bent at a right angle, got a replacement and two etra 120 case fans for intake, just gotta get the exhaust sorted,
core temp now showing 40,39.35.35 on the quads.
thank you
wessa
