Is Holland still full of dykes?

Just a quick question. I remember someone telling me that Holland had lots of dykes in it. Is this still the case?

I think they do. I remember reading a story in primary school about a boy called Peter who had to put his finger in a dyke to save his village. He had his finger in the dyke for weeks I think. Good story that.
