Is IPS image retention common?

2 out of 3 new iMacs at work have started getting this on their IPS screens and at times it is terrible.
Done a bit of reading and it does seem to be a known problem with IPS panels.

However how common is it on other makes and models of IPS screens?
I was not really aware of this until the iMac issues and my 24" LG IPS monitor has never noticeably had it.

Is there ever any danger the retention will become permanent or does it always reset/fade?
 
I guess by the lack of replies it's not that common then? :p

At least it isn't just ours, even if it isn't that common.
Sounds then like it might just be some batches of panels.
Currently arranging to get them back to Apple anyway and see what they say.
They are barely a month old.
If it is just the type of usage then fair enough, but they may just replace anyway - fingers crossed.
