Hi,

I'm a game developer and will be getting a HTC Vive for use in my home office. However I'm concerned that with the headset and headphones on I won't know if I get an email, or phone call, or someone knocks on the door or comes into the room.

Is there a way to receive a notification on the headset when something like this happens?

Thanks,

Valve have a way of tapping into your phone for notifications in VR, but there's not many details on it as to how it works or if it's specific phones.

Entering the room there is the front camera you can manually switch to, but nothing automatic.

Vavle just announced last night that consumer Vive will have built in bluetooth which will allow it to connect directly with your phone and the light house base stations. You will get phone notifications in VR when you have the headset on, you can even answer calls and reply to texts.

They have stated you will be able to get notifications and answer calls from the headset, since it apparently comes with earbuds I can only assume there is either an inline mic with those or one in the headset for that to work

A new bit of info from the steam updates is that the lighthouses are bluetooth enabled which is likely how they will also enable phone connectivity.

if someone does walk in, will the vive's spacial awareness (blue ghost of desk/walls) detect said person and show them as a blue ghost if you're looking in their direction... imho that would not be a good thing in a 'horror' game.... because you'll either try to hit it away with the controllers or you'll freak out when you touch them / when they touch you...
