Is it acceptable for men to drink wine in pubs?

For a variety of reasons I've gone right off beer (and cider) right now so am looking for an alternative to drink and was thinking about wine, but it just feels wrong. Is it just my paranoia or would I really look completely ridiculous drinking a glass of wine when all my friends have pints?

What other acceptable man drinks are there?

Hmm not many pubs have a good selection of wines.

I'd look at bar that have a more cosmo feel with a restaurant attached. The selection of wines would be much better.

It could be you're going off pubs.. next it'll be slippers and a pipe! :p

Have you tried other beers like Inns & Gunn ?

Believe me, I went off pubs a long time ago - I'd much rather be at home with my pipe and slippers. However tomorrow night will be a celebration of sorts and I've been told in no uncertain terms that it's "compulsory" :(

I started this thread thinking it was a light-hearted question. I'm genuinely surprised by the reaction it's provoked.

It seems to me that there's a definite split between the older ocukers (myself included) who see men drinking wine in a pub as odd to say the least (I don't think anyone seriously thinks it means you're gay), and the younger members of the community who think you should drink whatever you want and not care what sort of impression you're creating. Interesting...

There are plenty hardnut Greek and Roman warriors through the ages who drank plenty wine, it's only the ignorant who have cause for concern.

Different culture though init. Greeks and Romans walked around semi-naked all the time but believe me, I'd look pretty silly doing that, especially in London in November :p
