I wouldn't bother getting a 256mb card over what you've got already tbh, it is better than what you've got but you'd still be limited to lower resolutions.
If you can stretch to a 512mb for a low price (not too difficult now the 4850's are out) then that'd be a much better choice. :)
 
yep I can get the 512 meg card, are there any others in that price range which would be a better choice, I,m not going to be able to spend a couple of hundred
on a card for quit some time, so it a just a stop gap till I have the money to get a high end card.

Definately the 9600 GT if you can afford the extra £6, its not much slower than the 8800 GT, and will be a massive boost in performance. :)
