So Dell 2707WFP has started making black patches on my screen noticeable on certain colours this mean the back lights are dying or something else?

Yeh bud was made in 2007 so pretty old now guess they dont live forever

You could give Dell a ring and see if they'll repair it and how much otherwise it's upgrade time

Not worth repairing imo.
It will cost you a fair amount of money to send it to Dell and for them to repair it and tbh, I don't have the best opinion of Dell technical support.
My friend was servicing his old Alienware laptop, that was over 2 months ago and it's still not fixed. And ha paid over 200£ for those repairs already.
Buy a new model.
I got mine on a promotion few months back.
Btw, next time go for Asus or Samsung or anything other than Dell.
Christmas are coming so some nice deals will start soon, use that
