Is it dying? Laptop/Software/Hardware Problem

Hi guys... i'm having issues with my laptop... Randomly, when starting, it will load, then COMPLETELY freeze up... when doing the most basic of tasks. Sometimes, I will just leave it too start up and it messes up...

The screen goes funny from time to time, with all the lines messing up... its hard to describe but its a mess.

From time to time, it just freezes randomly, like mini freezes, and sometimes, its fine... like now... its working but it just frooze for around 30 seconds. Nothing has changed at all. Its just started doing it.

I assumed it was graphics card... but then it come up with a S*** load of error messages and then frooze... so I assumed software.. but a few minutes ago, it came up with a HP message saying theres no operating system installed... so now I think its harddrive.

Please advise... I really don't want to fork out on a new lappy!

Its a DV6-1111EA HP lappy running on Vista (32bit I assume as it only has 4GB ram)

go and uninstall any unused programs.

Next: check for graphics card / display adapter drivers.

go to control panel (classic) --> administrator tools --> event viewer this brings up a window. Go to system log and check for yellow ! or red X symbols, if any exist double click and it should provide an error code which you can then google the problem. Also go to device manager (again in classic control panel) check for any hardware issues (look for ! & X) if there is right click --> properties -->device details --> update driver. If it is a new driver you are using find the relevant hard ware, go to properties and roll back the driver. This should start to thin out the possibilities.
