I have a keyfob which doesnt seem to be working on my VW golf, its happening with both fobs, the light on the fob works, but nothing is happening when buttons are pressed.

Not the batteries on the fobs, to make things worse, my car battery is low at the moment and needs to be replaced, however I dont think this is causing the fob issue as the battery fires up the engine so there is charge in there.

Iv heard you can re-code the fob to the reciever in the car using a full copy of VAGCOM & another application to get the keycode??

Is it possible to do this myself? I dont want to spend £90+ getting this done as I already have to spend £80 on a new car battery this month.

Any help appriciated.

Thanks, :)

Hmmm, if it is the reciever, what can i start looking at to resolve the issue do you think?

Would the fact that my car battery is abit dodgy cause this issue?

I had an 02 Passat and one morning it decided to drop the range for both keyfobs to approx 6". This meant having the key right next to the wing mirror to open the door.

Garage recoded them and replaced the batteries three times and eventually suggested that the receiver for this is built into the instument cluster and the price was far too high for mere mortals to stand!

Not looking good then :(
