Is it essential I use UCAS to apply to uni?

In theory you can apply directly but in reality use UCAS. I don't know what you're studying but I recall there being another UCAS equivalent specifically for either Music or Medicine? (Had a friend who wasn't sure whether to do music or medicine and put one set of applications through UCAS and the other through a dedicated one).

As per the title, I'm trying to apply at the moment and hate UCAS, their forms, their website and their way of doing things with a passion.

I'm in the same position bro. Applying for medicine and hate the form. Took me about 30 mins to fill the whole thing out though, what are you finding complicated?

All I need to do is to enter my statement in there, and then send it off.

Most Universities will require you to apply through UCAS for undergrad courses. Grad and post course are general directly applied for.

Not complicated as such, just tedious. listing GCSEs one by one via a 4 million strong list etc.

I just find it frustrating - but if that's what I gotta do then so be it.

I see what you're saying, but even then it's not that hard. To enter a GCSE, eg: English literature, just press E and find it, and then enter your grade.

It's not like you have 30 GCSE grades to enter or anything :p
